Procurement Business Advocate of Year – Kiruba Sankar, RBC
Awarded to an individual who acts as a catalyst and is devoted to the promotion of supplier diversity through outreach efforts/activities and is respected by their peers for advocating supplier diversity in Canada.
After five years of enthusiastically promoting supplier diversity (SD) from his role as Director, Global Procurement, Kiruba Sankar was tapped as global lead of RBC’s Corporate Social Responsibility program. Since then, he has successfully launched a three-year SD program to support RBC’s initiatives in Canada and beyond. Mr. Sankar develops relationships with internal partners who assist in the implementation of SD programs across departments. He has taken RBC’s well-established SD programs to the next level, creating Responsible Procurement training and applying a new Inclusive Supplier policy to ensure diverse suppliers compete in every procurement sourcing process at RBC. A mentor for suppliers, Mr. Sankar has led training on how to respond to RFPs and successfully engage with large corporations. Under his management, RBC’s Reciprocal Mentorship Program has expanded by 525%. Mr. Sankar has become RBC’s spokesperson at CAMSC events, and he’s a regular participant at events hosted by other SD councils, including CGLCC, WBE Canada, SDAC, and WeConnect International. In 2016, he spoke to government representatives at Parliament Hill about RBC’s SD program and encouraged SD expansion in the government procurement process.
