CAMSC recognizes Leadership and Innovation at its 13th Annual Business Achievement Awards Gala in Toronto at the Liberty Grand in Toronto to recognize corporate leaders in supplier diversity and showcase successful certified Aboriginal and minority-owned businesses. The gala was honoured by the attendance of R. Stacey LaForme, Chief of the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation, who opened the evening with a prayer. David Zimmer, Ontario Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, addressed the audience and brought greetings from Ontario Premier, Kathleen Wynne. “Our annual gala is a very rewarding event; not just for the award winners but for those who advance supplier diversity in the Canadian economy as a whole,” said Cassandra Dorrington, President and CEO of CAMSC. “Supplier diversity brings many benefits including improved product and service quality, increased market share and new revenue streams. Our corporate partners and supplier members have embraced this and they are flourishing as a result.” As part of the gala program, CAMSC premiered its new Supplier Spotlight speaker series featuring one of the first Indian industrialists in Canada, Mr. Kacee Vasudeva, owner of several businesses in the automotive and manufacturing sectors.
2017 Winners and Highlights: Supplier of the Year was awarded to Trinity Tech, a leading Quality Engineering Service provider to the automotive industry owned by Sri Lankan-born, Dunstan Peter. Procurement Business Advocate of Year was awarded to Kiruba Sankar, Director, Global Procurement at RBC and global lead of the organization’s Corporate Social Responsibility program. CATA Technology Innovation Award went to Ongweoweh Corp., an industry leader in pallet sourcing, implementation and management, founded in 1978 by Frank C. Bonamie, a former chief of the Cayuga Indian Nation of New York State; Collaboration Award was awarded to EY Canada, a global professional services firm that advances Aboriginal and minority-owned business growth by creating opportunities that support connection building and market expansion. Small Business of the Year was awarded to the Carter Benette Group, a national janitorial and maintenance company owned by Isvar Prashad. Corporation of the Year was awarded to ABC Group, one of the world’s leading automotive systems and components manufacturers. The organization has embraced diversity since the beginning and now uses an open bidding process as part of their practice globally.
