CAMSC Scores win for Aboriginal business with 3M

3M Canada and Telecom Computer

Through CAMSCs national database of certified Aboriginal and minority suppliers, 3M identified Telecom Computer as a potential supplier in an upcoming computer roll-out, and ultimately selected Telecom on the basis of price and performance.

From modest beginnings, Telecom Computer has worked diligently over the past 20 years to earn its reputation as a high-quality tier-1 system and networked solutions provider. In 1986, armed with $5,000 in seed money, Aboriginal founder and President Phil Davidson left school and started to buy software and computer equipment inventory, selling it out of a spare room in his home. It was an opportune time to start his business. “That time period was the dawn of the micro- processor era, as the industry started to evolve from being mainframe- based to PCs,” recalls Davidson. Lessons learned included how to successfully guide the sales and technical staff, who had become a part of the Telecom Computer team, on how to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction. In order to competently implement complex solutions to the growing customer base, Telecom Computer partnered with only tier-1 vendors, a policy which continues to allow the company prosper.

3M Canada is a diversified technology company that makes, markets and sells more than 50,000 products and its many well-known and respected brands include Scotch™, Scotch-Brite™, Post-it®, Filtrete™ and Thinsulate™. The sales, research, manufacturing and administrative organizations of the company all depend on the speed and reliability of a highly sophisticated Information Technology network.

After reviewing CAMSCs database of IT suppliers, Telecom Computer was invited to a series of meetings, ultimately leading to the contract to supply 3M with computers, hardware, peripherals and support. While CAMSC opened the door to 3M Canada for Telecom Computer, the business relationship is based solely on merit.

“Like any business, we choose suppliers on the basis of price and performance,” says Anne Koehler, 3M Senior IT Buyer. “Our experience with Telecom Computer has been extremely positive and productive, from on-time delivery and responsiveness, to warranty service. These are business critical applications, so failure and delay arent options.”
