This week we will take a deeper dive into the US market, the destination for 75% of Canada’s exports.

Our guest speaker Dina Santos, US Trade Commissioner formerly in Dallas and currently in Boston, will present the services offered to Canadian companies by the Trade Commissioners’ Service and offer advice to navigate the US market.

Lisa Heath and Pierre Paquette, co-founders of MediResource, will also be joining us and will discuss their experience with entering the US as a data services company and provide valuable advice to companies looking into exporting there.

Meet our speaker for the March Sessions

Steven Karpenko

Senior Sector Advisor, Ontario’s Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, in their Export Growth Branch

Steven Karpenko is a Senior Sector Advisor with Ontario’s Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, in their Export Growth Branch. Steven and his colleagues advise clients on how to access global markets in key sectors like Life Sciences, Information Technology and Aerospace, via live trade events and webinars.

Prior to joining the Ontario government in 2017 Steven owned and led several entrepreneurial ventures and has extensive experience in corporate retail and supply chain operations. He has an MBA from York University and is a Certified International Trade Professional.

Guest Trade Commissioner:

Dina Santos (LLB [Bachelor in Law], Universite de Montreal, 1996; admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1997) joined Global Affairs Canada in 2001. At Headquarters, she has worked in the Regional Trade Policy Division on various negotiations of multilateral and regional free trade agreements advancing Canada’s trade policy diversification objectives with the WTO, Europe and the Caribbean. She has also served as Deputy Director, Corporate Services and InfoCentre at the Montreal Regional Office where she was responsible for the management and delivery of the Invest-Canada-Community Initiatives contributions program. She has spent most of her career overseas with 5 assignments in the United States, as Vice-Consul for Science, Innovation and Technology (2002 to 2005) in Boston, Consul for Science, Innovation and Technology in New York City (2005 to 2010), Head of Office and Trade Program Manager in Palo Alto (2012 to 2017) and Senior Trade Commissioner in Dallas (2017 to 2021). Most recently, she is the Senior Trade Commissioner in Boston (2021 to date).  She received the Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers’ Award in 2007.
