The Government of Canada is currently implementing a multi-layered strategy and response to the COVID-19 pandemic through a combination of efforts that includes supporting provinces and territories on testing to slow the spread of COVID-19. Increasing national testing and screening capacity is a key component of this strategy and will better positions the federal government to respond to increased testing demands in the future. Rapid testing has emerged as an additional screening tool to complement diagnostic testing that has the potential to help control disease transmission, as they can be deployed in multiple settings like workplaces, schools, retirement homes or inter-provincial border crossing.
