Established to Advocate for Inclusive Procurement Public Policy

TORONTO, November 9, 2016 – Canada’s three certification councils (CAMSC, CGLCC and WBE Canada) joined together to host an event “Connect, Collaborate, Succeed” on November 9th and announced the establishment of a new advocacy alliance – Supplier Diversity Alliance Canada (SDAC).

The three founding organizations of the SDAC include: Canadian Aboriginal and Minority Supplier Council (CAMSC – representing Aboriginal and visible minority-owned businesses), Canadian Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (CGLCC – representing LGBT-owned businesses), and Women Business Enterprises Canada Council (WBE Canada – representing women-owned businesses).

 “The SDAC supports and informs governments, businesses and key stakeholders on the importance of inclusive procurement policies and practices through supplier diversity, leading to value with economic growth and social impact.” said Cassandra Dorrington, President and CEO, CAMSC.

“We focus on three core activities: Advocacy, Research, and Learning. We strive to improve economic opportunities for diverse certified suppliers from across the country, while assisting the various stakeholders in achieving their collective mandates.” emphasized Darrell Schuurman, co-founder of the CGLCC.

The SDAC is committed to:

  • Acting as Canada’s common voice for supplier diversity
  • Advocating for public policy change as it relates to supplier diversity and inclusive procurement
  • Driving increased economic growth and social impact across Canada.

“We will present information and recommendations to governments, businesses and other key stakeholders through annual learning forums, research and government relations activities. Through these efforts, the SDAC advises leaders on key priorities, concerns and best practices regarding supplier diversity and inclusive procurement.” added Mary Anderson, President of WBE Canada.

About SDAC

The three founding organizations of the SDAC include: Canadian Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (CGLCC – representing LGBT-owned businesses), Canadian Aboriginal and Minority Supplier Council (CAMSC – representing Aboriginal and visible minority-owned businesses), and Women Business Enterprises Canada Council (WBE Canada – representing women-owned businesses).  They are all incorporated not-for profit Canadian organizations with a national scope.  It is anticipated that other categories of diverse suppliers may be represented in the future. SDAC encourages participation from organizations focused on driving economic opportunities for diverse-owned businesses through supplier diversity activities.
